The #Christmas Tag

Thank you to Natalie over at Mummy But Still Me for tagging me in the #Christmas tag. I am excited to answer the questions. I am immersing myself in all things Christmas this year and started early by putting up my tree in November. Here we go:

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

A Christmas Carol (the one starring Alistair Sim) I remember watching this every Christmas Eve as a child and being really freaked out by the third and final ghost. Now I love it for the final scene where a Scrooge is singing and dancing in the snow like a mad man. This version of the book captures Dickensian Britain perfectly. Love it.

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I am pretty sure there was one when I was a child but I am not sure if it’s a hazy memory or an implanted one due to being bombarded with snowy advertisements for thirty years.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

For the past couple of years we have had Christmas at my mum’s house. Prior to that it was at my grandparent’s house for many years.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

Band Aid – Do they Know it’s Christmas. I like spotting the famous people in the video and it’s a hell of a tune. Neil and I always laugh at the line There won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time because when we went to Tunisia a few years ago it was snowing in the Sahara for the first time in 50 years or something silly. Bloody typical.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

It was a tradition as a child to open a present on Christmas Eve. I think we did it last year as well. Who knows if it will continue this year too.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Dasher, Prancer, Dixon, Rudolph, erm…no.

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

Eating a full on Christmas dinner. Can’t remember the last time I had a roast. Certainly not since Dexter was born.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

It’s a big fake. Real ones smell and drop needles everywhere. Plus you then have to dispose of it. Urgh.

What’s your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?

I just like everything this time of year. Chocolate, nuts, clementines, Schloer, potatoes, turkey, Pringles… everything I can eat!

Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?

I prefer receiving gifts because I am always scared I have got it wrong when giving gifts. I worry that people won’t like the things I’ve bought and spend most of December full of anxiety about it.

What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?

I had some great presents as a child. A bike, tiny tears doll, barbie camper van. Last year my husband bought me a Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush Gift Set. That was something I’d wanted for a long time.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

It’s got to be Australia. I’d love to celebrate Christmas on the beach. I need to go back to Oz one day and it has to be over the Christmas holiday period.

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I can wrap some gifts well, others are a bit hit and miss. I try and I suppose it’s the thought that counts.

Most memorable holiday moment?

One year I spent Christmas at my grandparents then drove to my husbands house in the evening (we were just dating then). It was about a 100 mile drive probably. It was our first Christmas as a couple, he got me a teasmade. Great first present(!)

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

People kept telling me in school and I was about 11 for gods sake.

What makes the holidays special for you?

I usually hate this time of year because I work in a post office and it’s our busiest time. I usually have to work 7.30-6.30 which meant last year leaving the house at 6.45 and not getting home til 7.30. Last year I worked five days a week straight for four weeks doing these hours and it was horrible (and probably contributed to me getting so ill with pelvic girdle pain in January). So now I am excited to spend two weeks with my husband (who has Christmas off) and Dexter and just revel in the Christmas spirit instead of being my usual Scrooge-like self. That’s probably why I like A Christmas Carol so much, I am Scrooge!

Oh, this sounds like fun. Thanks for the tag! I need to get into the Christmas spirit, I’m not doing a very good job this year.
I love the smell of real Christmas trees! But you’re totally right about the needles – such a pain. I’m in Perth, Australia so we always spend Christmas on the beach. But I’m originally from the UK and used to Christmas Day being cold, so it never feels quite right being so hot!

Oh wow, how long have you been in Australia for? I haven’t been to Perth, we visited Sydney, Cairns and Melbourne when we went. My family lived in Perth until a few years ago when they up and moved to Melbourne. We would love to visit one day, it would certainly break the journey up that little bit more.

13 years now. I love Melbourne, it’s one of my favourite cities. Perth is a great place to live, I love it here
