London Hilton on Park Lane | Hotel Review

29th November 2019

I was recently given the chance to stay at the London Hilton on Park Lane, one of London’s most luxurious hotels and I was so excited to see what it had to offer. My branch was nominated in two categories in the Retail Sales Awards hosted by the business that employs me and myself and one of my colleagues travelled down to London, all expenses paid and attended the award ceremony where sadly we didn’t win anything. We had an amazing time though and it was great just to get away from being a Mum for the weekend and spend some time in a bit of luxury.

London Hilton on Park Lane is situated in the Mayfair district of London, one of the more expensive areas to stay in, but it is fantastically located with it being only a short walk to Green Park, Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park Corner.

The Welcome

The hotel was exceptionally busy when we arrived as they were accommodating not only their usual Saturday night guests but also hundreds of people from my business who had come especially for the awards ceremony. There was a pretty hefty queue at reception to check in but the queue moved quickly and when we reached the front we were directed over to a desk where a receptionist checked us in to our rooms. The foyer is beautifully decorated with plenty of seats to relax and four lifts available to take you to your room. You don’t just get in any old life though! You use a machine to select which floor you want and it directs you to the lift you must take. This saves you having to stop at every single floor as it directs you to the lift that most people who are stopping at your floor also require. A really cool system which I had never seen before.

The Room at London Hilton at Park Lane

I was a little disappointed with my room which had one small window and felt a little cramped, however my colleague’s room was much bigger, brighter and felt like it had a lot more space. All rooms come equipped with a king size bed, desk, comfy chair and en-suite bathroom with bath, over bath shower, sink and toilet. Both rooms also had comfy robes available, plenty of coat hangers, an iron and ironing board, room service options, a TV (although mine didn’t work), a kettle and tea, coffee and milk. The bed was really comfy and I was pleased with how many pillows there were making it even more comfortable.

Breakfast

Unfortunately, breakfast was a real let down and the service I experienced is not something I would expect from a five star hotel at all. Firstly, as it was so busy, I was shown to a table that had not yet been cleared. I sat waiting for it to be cleared but the waitress asked me to go and help myself to food while she did it. When I returned there was still no cutlery available and I had to wait for ten minutes while a young waiter went to the kitchen to find some. When he returned to the area near my table he didn’t try to come over so I had to call him over to ask for a fork so I could start my breakfast. He asserted that there were no forks available and it was not his fault. I was pretty dumbfounded and when my fork finally did arrive, my food was cold and as a result I did not enjoy it. A real shame as the breakfast options were fantastic and I was looking forward to starting with a full English and following it up with some fruit, yoghurt and a croissant.

My overall thoughts of London Hilton on Park Lane

The London Hilton on Park Lane costs anything up to £400 a night for a basic Queen room for two, and if I had paid this amount of money for the room and the service I received at breakfast, I would not have been pleased at all. As it was a freebie and it was a really busy weekend for them with having such a huge event on, I can forgive them for the lapse in excellent service, but I wouldn’t be inclined to stay here again, not when there are so many other hotels in the local vicinity.

I loved the location of the hotel and that we easily were able to access Bond Street to get our make up done at the world famous Fenwick’s department store, Buckingham Palace, Westminster and the South Bank, but in London location isn’t everything, with such a comprehensive transport network. The nearest tube station is Green Park and it took around ten to fifteen minutes to access the hotel from there by foot. There was no offer to help us with our luggage to our rooms which I have always found to be the case in other five star hotels I’ve stayed in, although all of these have been abroad. In my opinion, you are better off staying in a cheaper Hilton elsewhere and using the money saved in one of London’s amazing top restaurants.
