Happy Birthday to Me #31

Today I am another year older, another year wiser. I still don’t feel as if I am a grown up with bills to pay, a child to raise and a husband to cook dinner for, even though I’ve been doing two of those things for five years now. At the same time, I’ve been telling people I’m in my thirties for so long, it sometimes feels as if I should be 40-odd.

Birthdays have certainly changed since Dex started existing. The usual plan for my birthday is to jet off somewhere nice and warm and spend a relaxing two weeks sightseeing and taking in as much culture as possible. In 2011 we went to Spain and Morocco. In 2012 we went to Australia. In 2013 we went to Thailand and Kuala Lumpur. In 2014 we returned to Thailand and in 2015 we went to North America. (In 2010 I travelled around Italy, but I hadn’t met my husband then)

Last year was a bit different. I was heavily pregnant and in a lot of pain due to suffering with pelvic girdle pain. We spent one night in the Macron Stadium in a room that overlooked the pitch before driving up to Grasmere and spending three nights in a 5* hotel in the rain. Originally, we had planned to go to the top of Scotland, but it quickly became apparant that I wasn’t going to be able to make it that far. Even the Lake District was a struggle. Everytime I looked over my shoulder at my blind spot, Dex would boot me in the stomach so hard I would gasp.

This year I would have loved to have taken Dex away, however while half of the country are already on Easter break, my poor husband has one further week left of teaching before breaking up on 7th April. It is the first time in seven years we won’t be together on my birthday. I should count myself lucky of course, I’ve had six wonderful birthdays away from home, it’s not possible for everyone to be able to do this.

I am going to spend the day at my Mum’s house with my baby and eat king prawns (my favourite) and later on, have a take away (I’m thinking Indian) and watch TV in bed. It won’t be that much different from any other day but it will be my first birthday with Dex here in my arms and that makes it the most special birthday I’ve had yet.

Update: I’m late posting this as I’ve been in bed all day suffering with some sort of gastroenteritis. Please wish me a speedy recovery!

Happy Birthday lovely!!! Sorry you’ve had such a rubbish day of it, although think of the weightloss!! Your photos from pre-baby times look lovely, just think how many you’ll be able to add with Dex standing next to you in the years to come… you’ll have to visit all those places all over again just for that!

Happy (belated) Birthday!! Sometimes adulting feels weird and it’s strange to think of myself as a parent, but I’ve found the years with kids have been some of my favourites! My own little family to celebrate with! 🙂
