#MyHeartyLife | Week 3

21st January 2018

Last year I loved joining in with What the Redhead Said’s Living Arrows but this year I wanted to mix it up a little so I was very excited when I found Mary’s new Linky #MyHeartyLife. Each week I will be sharing what we have been up to and what cheerful moments we’ve experienced.

Another week has come and gone and with it a few new words have arrived in Dexter’s vocabulary including blueberries, water and bedtime. We have been cooped up indoors most of the week due to the awful weather; it was even snowing this morning. In between work and childcare, we have played lots and worked on developing new skills like kicking a ball and practising all the words that seem to keep falling out of his mouth. I had hoped to get out over the weekend, but it was not meant to be. We’ve probably watched way too much television and spent too much time staring at our phones but we’ve been cosy and it’s been nice to just take a breather.

This week Nuby sent us a travel booster seat which fits on our dining room chairs. This means Dexter can now sit at the table with us during our evening meals which is just lovely. On Wednesday we had stir fry noodles, Saturday we had a curry and Sunday we ate spaghetti bolognese. (As you can see we stuck to our meal plan which I mentioned last week.) While Dexter has been eating in the highchair, we have been guilty of eating ours in the couch or waiting until later and letting him eat alone; I feel much happier now we are all at the table together as now he can hopefully get better at using cutlery.

On Sunday the three of us baked some granola bars together. I positioned a chair next to the kitchen worktop so Dexter could kneel on it and attempt to help me put the oats and honey in a bowl. It wasn’t long before he decided he was brave enough to stand up on the chair so he could take in everything I was doing. My husband and Dex then stirred all the ingredients together, although when I say stirred, Neil stirred and Dexter used his spoon to scoop as much of the mixture in his mouth as possible. We made much more of a mess than we would have if there hadn’t been a small toddler involved, but it was a lovely activity to do together as a family and the result was ten delicious granola bars.

It’s been amazing to see Dexter start to imitate words this week, giving the pronunciation a really good go. He has totally nailed the words ‘water’ and ‘Sarah’ and he’s started chiming ‘Here we are!’ everytime we arrive home in the car or on foot. Language seems to have clicked for him in the past week or so and I am so excited to start teaching him lots of new words and phrases.

The Hearty Life

#MyHeartyLife is a weekly linky celebrating the goodness in life that week! The things you were grateful for, succeded at, and generally just beautiful. Whether big or small, share them in a post and realise the little beauties in life, despite the shortcomings, storms and failures!

YUM! I love watching the boys bake, especially if I don’t have to be the one who cleans up afterward! Well done Dex with his language, suddenly it will all flow so quickly! x

I’m glad it’s starting to come bit by bit. He still can’t say Mummy though!
