How to Serve Blueberries to Baby

Blueberries are a nutritious fruit that can be introduced to babies around 6 months old. Here’s how you can serve blueberries to your baby:

Preparation: Choose fresh blueberries that are ripe, plump, and without any signs of mould or damage. Wash the blueberries thoroughly to remove any dirt or residue.

Cutting: Small blueberries can be served whole to older babies who have developed their pincer grasp. For younger babies, you can mash or cut the blueberries into smaller pieces to reduce the choking risk. Larger blueberries should be squished between your fingers.

Serving: Offer the blueberries directly to your baby as a finger food. They can be served alone or mixed with other soft fruits like mashed banana or yogurt.

Should I mash or puree blueberries for my baby?

Blueberries are small and soft, so you can serve them as whole berries or lightly squish them for younger babies who may find the texture challenging.

Can I mix blueberries with other fruits or yogurt?

Yes, blueberries pair well with other fruits like bananas or applesauce. You can also mix them with plain yogurt for added creaminess and flavour.

Should I cut blueberries in half to prevent choking?

For younger babies, it’s recommended to cut blueberries in half to reduce the risk of choking. As your baby gets older and develops better chewing skills, you can offer them whole blueberries.
