A few months back I was given the opportunity to review the H-FREE 500 cordless stick vacuum cleaner which we absolutely loved. Hoover recently got in touch with us again to let us know that they’ve upgraded the model and will soon be releasing the HF500 ANTI TWIST. Of course we couldn’t wait to try the brand new features!
A bit of background on Hoover
I did a bit of background on Hoover Direct during my last review, but let’s recap! Founded in Ohio in 1908, Hoover has over 100 years of experience in developing the very best vacuum cleaners – as well as other cleaning products such as washing machines and tumble driers.
Most of us in the UK refer to all vacuum cleaners as ‘Hoovers’, they truly are the OG brand of vacuum cleaners and they’re still totally bossing the vacuum cleaner world with a gorgeous range of products, including the HF500 Anti Twist Pets
Hoover HF500 Anti Twist: What’s in the box?
When my HF500 Anti Twist arrived, I was pleased to see that the compact box that had contained the previous model was pretty much the same. The HF500 Anti Twist continues to be one of the most compact cordless vacuums in their range.
Everything was packaged nice and neatly within the box, with each accessory wrapped carefully and supported by bits of cardboard for safe delivery.

Assembling the product
As with the previous model, It was super easy to assemble all the parts together. Each part simply clicks together to build the exact vacuum you need. Simply click the handheld unit to the tube and floor nozzle to create a standard vacuum cleaner, or use the accompanying accessories to use it as a handheld vacuum.
Where can the HF500 Anti Twist be used?
Once assembled, the product works immediately (no need to charge the battery!) and can be used in a number of places:
- On hard flooring
- On carpets (simply click the carpet button when moving from hard flooring to carpet)
- Stairs (no more bending over and killing your back with an upright vacuum – simply convert to handheld!)
- Car (no need to worry about wires trailing down the front garden!)
- On furniture (I particularly like using the dusting tool for our velvet headrest that seems to accumulate so much dust!)
- Hard to reach places such as those pesky ceiling corners where cobwebs tend to gather dust
What are some of the best features of the Hoover HF500?
I loved the previous model of this Hoover and I am pleased to say that this version is even better! The HF500 boasts a number of features that sets it apart from other cordless vacuums on the market.
It’s extremely lightweight and compact
Weighing in at 2.5kgs, the HF500 Anti Twist Pets is extremely lightweight which is fantastic if you suffer with a bad back or find it difficult to vacuum with a bulky cleaner. This makes it great for older people or pregnant women.
Furthermore, when it comes to storage, this Hoover is very compact. In storage mode, the device sits at only 69cm in height meaning it can be stored in a cupboard out of sight, instead of cluttering up your home.
It can be used as a normal vacuum or as a handheld cleaner
Just like the previous model, the HF500 PLUS can be used upright or as a handheld device which is perfect for families like ours who are constantly having to clean up all the crumbs the kids drop over the dining table, sofas, carpets and rugs!
Need to clean up a dropped bag of crisps in the car? No problem! Dust gathering on the stairs? Easily solved with the crevice or dust and furniture tool.
Plenty of accessories that get the job done
Dust and dirt gathers in all areas of the home – especially in those hard to reach places. Thanks to the wide range of accessories that come with the H-FREE 500, you can get the job done with minimal effort!
As I previously mentioned, I particularly like using the dusting tool around the home and the crevice tool is perfect for those hard to reach spots where cobwebs and dust gather.
It can be charged anywhere
The battery pack on the HF500 PLUS detaches from the vacuum which was the same on the previous model and something I really loved. I had never seen this on any other cordless vacuum before. I often charge the battery pack in the lounge and of course as it’s detachable the Hoover doesn’t need to be visible to any guests who may have popped round!
It has handy LED lights
The LED lights on the device give incredible visibility so you can see what needs cleaning when tackling darker corners of your home like under sofas or behind the bed.
It won’t fall over when put in the parking position
When the H FREE 500 PLUS is left in an upright parked position, it won’t come crashing down. This has always been one of my favorite features of this range. With our previous cordless vacuum, everytime I would try and rest it against the wall, something would end up knocking it down and the dust would fly everywhere all over again. Not with the HF500 Anti Twist Pets!
How does the HF500 Anti Twist Pets differ from the previous model?
The new model boasts an anti twist floorhead which is meant to stop hairs getting tangled in the brush. As someone who has super long hair (and seems to lose an awful lot of it!) this is a game changer.
I spend hours every year having to remove hair from my corded vacuum cleaner so I was really intrigued to see how the anti twist feature would work.
Hoover states that we can forget about tangled hair thanks to an integrated comb that prevents hair wrapping around the roller during cleaning. Maintenance is quick and easy, as the transparent window pops open for instant access.
After testing out the HF500 Anti Twist Pets in my bedroom (where most of my hair accumulates) I can confirm that the amount of hair in the floorhead was much, much less than when using my corded vacuum!
What’s the battery life like?
The battery will last for 45 minutes in auto mode or 10 minutes in turbo mode and takes around 2 hours to fully charge. I tend to use turbo mode sparingly (only when I am faced with a huge mess – hello dropped bag of crisps in the car) and a couple of minutes on turbo mode is usually enough to suck everything up.
