I am not the most active of people and have never been to a sport class in my life, however it is now time to make that change as Dex is quickly growing and is becoming obsessed with sports such as football, cricket and swimming.
Sports classes are a great way for your toddler to meet new people, learn about health and fitness as well as getting a deeper understanding of teamwork and the fun that comes with leading an active and healthy lifestyle. Dexter has always been a bit of a, shall we say, spirited, baby and toddler and I’ve always been quite apprehensive about taking him to a sports class, however, over the last six months he’s shown a keen interest in many sports and we have now decided to try a few classes before he starts school next September. After taking a keen interest in my Fitbit, we even got him his own kids fitness tracker so he could start understanding the correlation between his heart rate and keeping fit as well as checking in on his steps whenever we go to the park or for a big walk around our village.
Little Kickers in Ormskirk
This is one of the most well known franchises in the country, having started in London in 2002. This class is held on Saturdays and Sundays at St. Bede’s School in Ormskirk and is for children aged 2.5 to 7 years old. Rugbytots in Ormskirk
I grew up in Wales where rugby was a pretty big deal and the same can be said in West Lancashire too with the huge club of St Helens only a short drive down the road. You can start with Rugbytots from the age of 2 and they hold their classes at the other end of Ormskirk at Ormskirk School on a Saturday morning. At less than £7 for a class, it’s pretty good value and the teacher is a larger than life fella who loves to encourage the children to enjoy themselves.
Diddikicks
Diddikicks is a little cheaper than Little Kickers at £25.99 a month and the sessions they have are for 18m-5yat Asmall School in Ormskirk on Sundays. Just like Little Kickers, there is currently a waiting list which just goes to show how popular these classes are in Ormskirk.
Little Dragons
Just outside of Ormskirk in the sleepy village of Burscough, deep within the industrial estate is McKinstry Family Martial Arts which was founded in 2009. Family martial arts are a great way to get your toddler interested in sport and their Little Dragons programme is suitable for toddlers aged 3+
Pre-school Discovery Ducklings
At Park Pool in Ormskirk, there are a huge range of classes and if you’re looking for swimming lessons for your toddler then you can sign up for Pre-school Discovery Ducklings. Beginning at as young as 3 months old, swimming lessons are a great way to get your toddler active and of course water safety is such an important skill to learn.
