While the threat of somebody hacking your business might seem remote right now, it is a real. Malicious actors all over the world are looking for opportunities to steal your data, only handing it back to you when you pay a ransom.

A lot of working mums believe that their data has no value to hackers. After all, they’re only small players, turning over a few thousand pounds every month. Why would a hacker go after them?

It turns out that hackers usually have a better appreciation of your data than you do. Hackers know, for instance, that merely denying you access to critical documents is reason enough for you to want to pay a ransom to get it back. Threatening to pass on sensitive documents to clients or releasing personal data about customers could land you in hot water with regulators, again incentivising you to pay up.

As the following infographic shows, cybercriminal activity is on the rise. As their operations become more profitable, expect to see more people try to take advantage, putting smaller players like you at risk.

Your job as a mum working on a business from home is to put in place strategies to defend yourself. The following infographic charts some of the things that you can do to see off the threat. Perhaps the best option available to you is to get an education in cybersecurity issues. Fortunately, you can do this through cybersecurity training, through which you’ll learn how to protect your business and your data. From training, you can learn a variety of online safety tips in order to prevent your data from getting into the hands of hackers. As they say, the more you know, the better your position will be, and the abler you are to defend your company.
