Now that the weather has started brightening up and the roadmap to the end of lockdown is well underway, we’ve been trying to get out and about as much as possible with the boys. We’ve organised trips to the park, the beach, farm days out and even booked a few days away at Legoland.
However, the boys often get bored if we don’t bring a boot-full of toys for them to play with when we do head to the beach and park. Too little to be able to play football or cricket and far too young to want to sit around chilling, they need something that they can properly play with that’ll help them to use their imagination. Enter Tonka.
Tonka trucks are sturdy and built to last, with a distinctive yellow colour that is known worldwide. We were kindly sent a Tonka Dump Truck and Tonka Steel Classics Bulldozer to review and boy, did the kids love these strong and durable toys which are seemingly indestructible!
Who makes Tonka trucks?
Founded in 1946 in Minnesota USA, Tonka is known for making steel toy models of construction type trucks and machinery, all of which are super sturdy. Now owned by Basic Toys, Tonka trucks are just as popular now as they were in the middle of the twentieth century and they’ve not lost their distinctive yellow colour!
Tonka Toy Review
Basic Toys sent us a couple of Tonka toys to review: the Tonka Steels Classics Bulldozer and the Tonka Dump Truck. Discover what we thought of them below.
Tonka Steel Classics Bulldozer
The Tonka Steel Classics Bulldozer is ready to demolish and clear away anything in its path including dirt, sand and gravel. It comes with a workable blade and is built Tonka tough with real steel!
Suitable for ages three and up, Dexter loved taking the bulldozer to the beach and building pathways in the sand. He also used it to bulldoze sand out of the way to build a sand castle. This toy delivers hours of imaginative play and looks totally authentic!
Tonka Dump Truck
The Tonka Dump Truck is the absolute classic Tonka toy in my opinion. Tough and built to last, the classic Tonka Dump Truck has a steel cab and movable steel rear tipper. Coming in trademark Tonka yellow with big sturdy wheels, this is a dump truck which will withstand hours of active play and boy, did the kids put this truck to the test!
The Tonka Dump Truck was raced down the concrete ramps at the beach, crashing into the sand below, without obtaining the smallest of marks.
The boys rolled them down the hills at the park, racing each other to see who could land it at the bottom of the hill the quickest.
Felix used the truck as his own personal ‘toddle truck’, sitting on the dumper and using his little legs to scoot around.
The boys found piles of stones, shells and rocks at the beach and loaded the Tonka up, before dispensing them in a big pile.
The options are endless…and hours of fun were had by both the (nearly) three year old and the (just turned) five year old.
