From adventure to relaxation: Finding your perfect cruise itinerary

Whether you are a first-time cruiser or looking to level up your next adventure, there are many ways in which you can better find the perfect cruise itinerary. Read on for just a few questions you can consider to optimise your cruise experience.

What is your ideal and maximum budget?

The average cost of a cruise is roughly £125 per person, per day – which is around £875 for a full 7 nights. That said, as a general rule of thumb – depending on the cruise line, cruise ship, and destination – the average cruise holiday can be anything from £40 to £800 per person, per day.

By setting an ideal budget, you can shop around to find deals from the most appropriate cruise lines such as P & O Cruises that are within the right ballpark. Setting a hard maximum spending limit allows you a little wriggle room on price or optional extras without going over your budget.

What do you want to get out of your cruise?

There are many different types of cruises out there, such as expedition cruises, adult-only cruises, themed cruises, theatre- or music-oriented cruises, and family-friendly cruises. In order to decide which one might be the best option for you, you must first decide the ultimate goal or purpose of your cruise.

For example, if you are looking for some adventure, you might consider river cruises, expedition cruises, or multi-port cruises. On the other hand, for ultimate relaxation, no-fly adult-only cruises might be a better option.

Where do you want to explore?

You can get the best P&O cruises, Silversea cruises, Costa, Virgin, Celebrity, and more, that stop at some of the world’s best tourist destinations all over the world.

Additionally, cruise lines like Norwegian and Exotic Heritage Group have more tailored packages. Namely, Norwegian allows you to explore the Scandinavian fjords, the arctic circle, and the Northern Lights – whilst Exotic Heritage Group boasts cruises along the Ganges river.

What time of year are you looking to travel?

Where and what you want to explore will typically dedicate the best time of year for your cruise. For sunnier locations where you just want to relax, the summer months will no doubt be best. However, if you are looking to see the Northern Lights, Spring and Autumn are the most opportune times of the year.

What kind of room do you want?

Whereas with a hotel or resort, you are pretty much guaranteed a window, this is a luxury when it comes to a cruise ship. The most affordable cabins onboard are known as interior cabins, which, as you might have guessed by the name, do not have windows.

However, if you are a first-time cruiser or like the smell of the fresh sea air, you can find cabin options that have windows or even balconies attached to the room. Some cruise lines now have LED ‘windows’ to make interior cabins that bit more comfortable.

Or, to really push the boat out, you might opt for a suite. These are the height of luxury aboard, and often come with additional services and amenities included in the cost.

And there you have it – just a few considerations to ensure you find the perfect cruise itinerary.
