Having a child can be one of the most stressful times in your life, particularly regarding work. It’s natural to want to continue your career and not let it go as a stay-at-home mum, but how do you do that, especially if you don’t have a degree or formal education? Working as a mum doesn’t come easy for everyone. Juggling childcare, housework and keeping up with other responsibilities are all challenging, particularly if you are also working or studying. The good news is that there are many jobs mums can do that don’t require degrees. Whether you have finished school or dropped out after primary, there are some great options for working mums who don’t need degrees to land a job. There are many roles where work experience is more important than formal education, and these can be excellent opportunities for working mums who don’t need degrees:

Personal Trainer

If you can motivate clients and handle a demanding schedule, becoming a personal trainer is an excellent option for working mums. Education requirements vary, but most online courses require 10-20 hours of online study and a small fee, and it’s easy to find a personal trainer course online. Becoming a certified personal trainer can open doors to many different job opportunities, such as teaching fitness classes, working at gyms, and leading health workshops. Being a personal trainer can be physically and emotionally demanding, but with the right experience, it can be a flexible and rewarding career. Getting a job as a personal trainer is hard because you need the expertise to get the job. However, if you have been exercising for a while and are knowledgeable about different exercises, it could be a great start to your career as a personal trainer.

Customer Service Representative

For many working mums, a customer service job is an excellent option for work. Often, companies prefer work experience and a strong work ethic over degrees, and it can be a fantastic opportunity for mums to earn a living. Customer service jobs are available for many industries, such as travel, retail, and hospitality. There are many advantages to becoming a Customer Service Rep. It is a flexible job that you can do from home with few hours each week. It can be an excellent way to earn an income while taking time off work to have a child and is often a good option for mums with limited work experience. Customer service workers usually deal with different people daily and can positively impact people’s lives. It can be an emotionally demanding job, but the benefits can be worth it.

Babysitting/Nanny

If you enjoy spending time with children, becoming a babysitter or nanny is a great way to earn money while staying home with your own child. As a parent, you will already be familiar with the daily routine of your child and may be able to offer more services than a standard sitter. This is often a part-time job, with mums being able to work as many hours as they please. Nevertheless, babysitting is an excellent way to earn money while spending time with your child. It can be demanding, but it is a role that offers flexibility and a chance to make friends with other parents. Nannies can be hired full-time and often need formal training.

Transcription Services

Transcriptionists are often needed for audio and video recordings for businesses and law firms. Working remotely, you can transcribe recordings and audio files sent to you by clients. You don’t need a qualification to work as a transcriptionist, but it can be a great source of income for working mums.

Marketing and PR Representative

Many businesses hire social media specialists who help promote their brands online- and these jobs don’t require formal education. You can do this customer service job remotely and on your own schedule; marketing and PR reps usually work freelance and can set their hours. It can be a financially rewarding career.

Freelance Writing

Working mums who enjoy writing and have a way with words can make excellent freelance writers. Many websites are dedicated to freelance writing, and it can be a perfect way to earn a living from home.  If you look around for opportunities and practice your writing skills, you can find a freelance writing job. If you can write well, it can be a great way to supplement your income or even replace your full-time job entirely. Many businesses and websites will pay for articles and can be excellent clients to work for as freelance writers. It can be a challenging and competitive career, but it is well worth the effort for many working mums.
