Brussel Sprout Puree

When it comes to weaning your baby, you should definitely try to offer every single type of fruit and vegetable – even those you remember hating as a kid! That’s why I am sharing this Brussel sprout puree recipe.

When offering purees to babies, I prefer to start plain – using just the veggies and milk – but after a few tries, there’s no harm in adding in a few herbs and spices to zest things up a little!

Why offer brussel sprouts to your baby?

Brussel sprouts are extremely nutritious and offer the following benefits:

  • Protein – essential for growth and repair
  • Carbs – gives baby energy
  • Fibre – helps with digestion
  • Vitamin K – builds healthy bones
  • Vitamin C – aids your baby’s immune system
  • Folate – promotes healthy cell growth

Can you freeze this recipe?

This Brussel sprout puree recipe can be frozen so that you build a freezer stash and always have something on hand to feed your baby.

The easiest way to freeze baby purees is to get hold of some ice cube trays and fill them with the puree.

Once frozen, these blocks of puree can be removed the tray and stored in a freezer bag for easy access – freeing up your ice cube tray to use for further batch cooking.

What blender do you use to make the puree?

I use a 2 in 1 Kenwood Blender & Food Processor that makes batch cooking for baby super easy!

Not only can you make yummy smoothies for yourself, you can whizz up purees using the blender and then use the food processor to chop a whole host of veggies and make yummy desserts too!

Can purees be offered as part of baby led weaning?

As you guys may or not know, I am primarily a baby led weaning blogger and mostly share BLW recipes, however I am open to offering babies purees as part of their weaning journey.

With both my boys, I started with simple purees in the early days, alongside table foods. This is often known as combination weaning.

By doing this, it built my confidence and I will always support Mums who wish to do a little bit of both types of weaning.
