Dexter is well and truly into his 18-24 month wardrobe now and I have actually put all of his 12-18 month stuff away. It’s actually on my mind now that I need to start looking for 2-3 year clothes but for now I wanted to have a look back on some of my favourite 18-24 bits.
18-24 months is such a fun age. Toddlers of this age are usually well and truly walking and although they are fiercely independent they often get tired easily and want to retire to the pram. Everything is new and the desire to explore is huge in their lives. Dexter loves nothing better than splashing in puddles, jumping into the sea and covering himself from head to toe in mud and sand. Comfort is paramount as at this age they’ll still be having regular naps and so clothes need to be soft enough to sleep in as well as exploring the world in.
I love stripes and went out purposefully to pick items that were striped especially if those stripes were navy blue; I just adore that nautical look. We were very excited to pick his winter coat which needed to be both warm and waterproof. Mostly we chose a lot of long sleeved tops to wear with a vest underneath as opposed to too many jumpers as we find that Dex often works up quite a bit of a sweat while he is traipsing around. Layers have always been important to us so we can add and take away depending on what we are doing and where we are going.
I’ve found that we’ve not had to dispose of as many tops and pants as we did when he was in 12-18 month attire due to him being more able to feed himself without making a huge mess. As he’s grown into his 18-24 month stuff we’ve phased out the dribble bibs which were paired with his outfit each day and accessorised more with hats and gloves which have been necessary during the cold winter months.
It’s such a shame that the clothes only have a lifespan of around eight months and I think this is the main reason why I am determined to have another little boy so I can get another wear out of these lovely pieces. If not I’ll certainly be passing them along to a family friend who hopefully will love them as much as we did.
