After a difficult first week, it’s safe to say I was feeling a little apprehensive and despondent about the second week of baby led weaning.
They say you shouldn’t compare your babies, but it was hard looking back at my posts about Dexter’s baby led weaning journey and seeing he was demolishing most foods and was eating three times a day. (Although I was shocked I had made so much work for myself so early on!)
Although I had planned to give single vegetables for the first two weeks, I decided to go in all guns blazing for week two and started with an omelette- one of Dexter’s very favourite foods during his weaning journey.
Just like during week one, not much was consumed during the week, but we did see a change in Felix. He was playing more with what I gave him and slowly attempting to put it in his mouth (although struggling).
On Wednesday we had success with a huge piece of toast which he sucked and gagged on and I started feeling more confident. By Saturday he was having a great go of the baby led raspberry muffins I had made and on Sunday we offered him two meals- crumpets in the morning and a bit of our home Made Chinese in the evening.
The other big change this week was we purchased a new high chair. As much as we love our Joie Mimzy Snacker, Felix just didn’t seem comfortable in it, so on Monday we went to Ikea and bought their Antilop highchair. I had hoped for an immediate drastic change but he still seemed a little uncomfortable at times, especially if he was tired.
Luckily, being a Mum of two means I have very little time to sit and worry about Felix’s lack of eating at this stage, although I recognise it’s frustrating me. He was born 9 days before his due date, although I know from my own dates he was at least 14 days early. He has been late to hit other milestones including smiling, rolling and sitting so I shouldn’t be surprised it would be the same with weaning. I am now trying as much as possible to give him little bits of whatever we are eating to make sure there’s as little waste as possible and a lot less stress too!
Here are some images of what we’ve been offering Felix this week:
