How to Serve Sweet Potato to Baby

Sweet potatoes are a nutritious root vegetable that can be introduced to babies around 6 months old.

Here’s how you can serve sweet potatoes to your baby:

Preparation: Wash the sweet potato thoroughly and peel the skin off.

Cooking: Steam, boil, or bake the sweet potato until it becomes soft and tender.

Mashing: Once cooked, mash the sweet potato with a fork or blend it to a suitable texture for your baby. You can also mix it with breast milk, formula, or a little water to achieve the desired consistency. If you’re baby led weaning you can serve sweet potato fingers or soft chunks for baby to pick up and self feed.

Serving: Allow the mashed sweet potato to cool down to an appropriate temperature before offering it to your baby. You can serve it as a standalone puree or mix it with other vegetables or grains.

What’s the best steamer to use?

You can choose a stand alone steamer or one that sits on your stove top. Both have their own pros and cons, but we always used a stand alone three tiered steamer so we could steam in bulk. Batch cooking was always important to me when I was weaning my babies.
