Starting your baby’s weaning journey can be a overwhelming task. You have just gotten used to making bottles/breastfeeding on demand, figured out a nap routine and now you’re having to bring feeding solids into the mix. At times, it can feel like a never ending cycle of milk, solids and sleep. A cycle that feels like it’ll go on forever! There are some handy baby weaning products that will make your life so much easier when you kick off your weaning journey. Baby led or traditional weaning, here are some of the baby weaning products for the kitchen that I found indispensable during our two baby weaning journeys.

Essential Baby Led Weaning Products for Your Kitchen

Let’s start with eight of my favourite essential baby weaning products for the kitchen. From equipment that’ll sit on your kitchen worktops to make batch cooking a hundred times easier, to essentials such as spoons and baby led weaning bowls, this post will have you ready to kick off your weaning journey – a journey that’s filled with so many memorable and fun moments – as well as lots and lots of mess!

  1. Food steamer
  2. Blender
  3. Food processor
  4. Doddlebags
  5. Airtight containers
  6. Freezer labels
  7. Baby spoons
  8. Bowls, plates and cups

1. Food steamer

A food steamer has been an invaluable addition to our kitchen gadgets and came in super useful when we were weaning both boys. We used this Russell Hobbs three-tiered food steamer, which allowed us to separate various vegetables to steam all at once.

In the early days, we used it to steam fingers of sweet potato, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli and we much preferred this method of cooking vegetables this way as not only did they retain more of the nutrients compared to if we have boiled them, but it made them soft enough to gnaw, but not so soft that they’d break up in baby’s hand.

A must have baby weaning product for any mum who is in the process of starting solids with her baby!

2. Blender

You don’t need to buy a blender that’s specifically marketed for baby weaning – in fact I tried a mini blender from a leading baby brand and it was one of the worst things I have ever purchased.

Instead, get your hands on a blender that’ll not just work for weaning, but last you for years to come. Blenders are fab for making smoothies, soups, chopping up veg, grinding spices and you can even make your own homemade ice cream!

We love this Kenwood 3 in 1 blender which we bought back in 2014 and is still doing us proud, nearly eight years later!

Whether you use it to blend fruit and veg into purees, or to mix up batter to create deliciously green spinach pancakes, a blender will prove extremely valuable throughout your weaning journey and beyond!

3. Food processor

A food processor can save you so much time with chopping veg, kneading dough and creating thick and creamy soups and sauces. This Kenwood compact food processor is another kitchen essential that has stood the test of time in our home, now having stood proud on our quartz worktops for nearly a decade!

It’s small enough not to take up much room on the worktops, but powerful enough to get ingredients processed, saving me valuable time. Something that is even more valuable when time seems so short during those jam packed weaning days.

Use a food processor to make soups for babies, add the kneading attachment and let it knead flour and greek yoghurt to create baby-friendly flatbreads, or simply use it to whizz up fruit and veg to batch make purees. The options are endless.

4. Doddlebags

When it comes to weaning your baby there can be a lot of waste – food waste especially. I have tried to be more conscious in recent years of doing my bit for the planet, so I was thrilled to discover Doddlebags.

Each Doddlebag is reusable and recyclable and save you from buying expensive pouches and jars. They can be used to store homemade baby food such as purees, smoothies, yoghurts that you’ve flavoured with fruit puree.

We also love that they’re leak proof, are self standing and are dishwasher safe!

5. Airtight Containers

A sure fire way to make your life as easy as possible when it comes to baby weaning is batch cooking. Most of the baby led weaning recipes on this blog are designed with batch cooking in mind. It’s so much easier to spend 30 minutes cooking one big batch of stuff so you can chuck the rest of it in the freezer for a later date.

Naturally, you don’t just want to be chucking bits of food in the freezer without any kind of protection. These air tight containers from Amazon are cheap, cheerful and can be reused multiple times. Win-win!

6. Freezer labels

When you’re whipping up a batch cooking storm in the kitchen, it may be hard to keep track of all the baby weaning goodies you’ve got stored in your freezer, so these freezer labels are an absolute must!

Honestly, it’s the simple things that are gonna save you the most time and reduce the hassle of weaning!

7. Baby Weaning Spoons

Your list of kitchen essentials wouldn’t be complete without baby weaning spoons. Your cutlery drawer will slowly be taken over by a huge range of spoons in every shape, colour and size over the next couple of years, but we loved starting off with these Munchkin White Hot spoons.

These clever little utensils change colour if the food is too hot, meaning you can rest assured you’re not gonna burn baby’s mouth when spoon feeding. Something that I was always a bit concerned about when doing pre-loaded spoons of soup.

8. Bowls, Plates and Cups

The final essential baby weaning products for your kitchen are bowls, plates and cups. Just like with the weaning spoons, we’ve found that our kitchen cupboards have started bursting at the seams with a huge range of different types, but these are our favourite of all the brands we’ve tried over the years.

Baby Weaning Bowls

Our favourite baby weaning bowl has to be the Bamboo Bamboo range. Naturally, they look super cute when sharing your weaning journey across Instagram and Facebook weaning groups, but they’re also eco-friendly and have a handy suction grip so they stick to the highchair!

Baby Weaning Plates

It’s yet another nod to the Hot White range from Munchkin. I loved using this plates in the early days with Dexter so I could see exactly when the food I was serving was cool enough to offer to him. It might seem super simple, but as a nervous first-time Mum, it’s weaning products like this that really put my mind at ease.

Baby Weaning Cups

Can you tell we love the Munchkin brand? The 360 cup is a game changer after trying hundreds of different sippy cups, straw bottles and open cups. The 360 is non-spill and yes, although it takes a bit of getting used to, once baby has the hang of it, you’ll never look back.

and don’t forget these baby weaning essentials

Naturally, every weaning journey is going to need a high chair. Check out our post on the best highchairs…
